But we felt that purely for his wellbeing this was the correct approach. So the home opened, five clients went into the home and my client stayed on the ward. We then agreed that over a period of two to three months he would be introduced to the home. We felt that once he got to know the home and saw what a nice place it was, we could introduce him slowly. Then at the end of three months we'd say, "How do you feel about it? " In actual fact it didn't work out at all like that. The first weekend he went over and saw one of his friends at the home.

It was being closed for two weeks over the Christmas period. We were to be put on a surgical ward which also had pain relief patients and care of the dying. Our own children's ward has safety locks and handles and was designed specially for them. Our staff were not happy to move with the children, but the management would not take our fears as a good reason. I rang the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) to ask what course if any could be taken and was told we could write a letter stating our unhappiness at the situation and they told me the wording.
