46 Chapter 1: The Assessment Stage Chapter 1: The Assessment Stage 47 Global Catalog Servers The Global Catalog (GC)is a partial set of attributes of every object in an Active Directory forest. The attributes included in the Global Catalog are used in searches to locate objects in the directory. By default, there is only one GC in a forest. Subsequent GCs must be added manually. It is maintained on domain controllers that are designated as Global Catalog servers, which store a complete replica of the domain in which the DC is located, and a partial replica of every other domain in the forest that facilitates forest-wide searches.
