A surface facing the prevail ing illu mination will be more highly illu minated than a surface not facing it. This seems to be a general principle relat ing illumination to surface layout. This principle means that the different adjacent faces of the environ ment will be differently illuminated at any given time of day. But it also means that the faces under high illu mination early in the day will be under low illumination late in the day and vice versa because of the motion of the sun across the sky.
